About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Controller to join our team at Historic England. As a key member of our finance department, you will play a critical role in leading our financial accounting activities, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial reporting, and providing expert advice on financial matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the financial accounting activities, including monitoring, evaluating, and advising on accounting standards, regulations, and financial reporting frameworks.
  • Develop and implement effective financial control processes, promoting a culture of financial excellence and risk management.
  • Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement business strategies, ensuring alignment with financial goals and objectives.
  • Provide expert financial guidance and support to teams across the organization, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and standards.
  • Manage and develop a team of financial professionals, providing coaching, mentoring, and performance management.

Requirements

  • Qualified CCAB accountant (or equivalent) with significant experience in a technical and/or transactional financial environment.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality financial results, with a strong focus on accuracy, attention to detail, and timeliness.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Advanced Excel skills, with the ability to analyze complex financial data and provide insightful recommendations.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team of financial professionals.
