Job Title: Consultant Ophthalmologist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist to join our team at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our ophthalmology department, you will be responsible for providing high-quality clinical care to patients, leading a team of junior doctors, and contributing to the development of our services.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Ophthalmologist to join our dynamic team and contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care. You will be responsible for:

  • Providing expert clinical opinions on a range of ophthalmic problems, both emergency and elective.
  • Leading a team of junior doctors and providing clinical supervision and guidance.
  • Developing and implementing clinical policies and procedures to improve patient care.
  • Participating in audit and quality assurance processes to ensure the highest standards of care.
  • Communicating effectively with patients, relatives, and staff to ensure seamless care.
About Us

Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is a forward-thinking and well-equipped department providing a wide range of ophthalmic services, including vitreo-retinal surgery, medical retina, lacrimal surgery, glaucoma, corneal services, and cataract surgery. We have a talented and enthusiastic team of nurses, orthoptists, and optometrists trained to work in various clinics and provide sub-tenon blocks for cataract surgery.

Person Specification

We are looking for a Consultant Ophthalmologist with:

  • FRCOphth or equivalent qualification.
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice.
  • Minimum of English Level 2 (GCSE grade C or equivalent).
  • IELTS or graduate of a UK Medical School.
  • Name on the Specialist Register by date of interview or within 6 months of CCT.
