Position Title: Mechanical Utilities Technician

Location: GrangeCastle

Employment Type: Permanent

Role Overview:

The selected candidate will operate within a pharmaceutical setting, collaborating with a team of day technicians. This position does not involve shift work.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the utilities team to organize work activities in accordance with maintenance and process schedules.
  • Assist in commissioning tasks, project support, and vendor maintenance for equipment.
  • Coordinate with the Utilities and Engineering Departments to plan and schedule necessary maintenance activities.
  • Oversee and support service or equipment vendors during maintenance to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
  • Engage with discipline leads to synchronize activities for the efficient execution of maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure all Permit to Work (PTW) and mechanical isolations are established for maintenance operations related to mechanical utilities.
  • Develop initiatives aimed at cost savings and energy efficiency within utility systems.
  • Update Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) maintenance documentation and schematics to reflect necessary changes and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Conduct both corrective and preventative maintenance on all operational machinery.
  • Proactively address and resolve operational issues to ensure long-term solutions.
  • Implement corrective actions as needed for all equipment and operational challenges to foster continuous improvement within the plant.
  • Plan and create maintenance strategies as required.
  • Operate and maintain utility systems effectively.
  • Respond to operational requests regarding utility-related matters.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Completion of an apprenticeship or possession of a third-level qualification in a mechanical discipline.
  • A minimum of three years' experience in mechanical utilities or process maintenance.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or biologics sector is essential.
  • Strong practical knowledge of mechanical systems.
  • Experience executing mechanical preventative and corrective maintenance tasks on production systems and equipment, including pumps, autoclaves, and inspection machines.
  • Support for both electrical and calibration departments within the production environment.
  • Adherence to all relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during maintenance tasks.
  • Documentation of all executed works in the relevant Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Strong awareness of GMP practices.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and system P&IDs.
  • Maintain organized and controlled documentation in compliance with client procedures.
  • Participate in daily meetings and provide updates on status.
  • Exhibit excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, ensuring no risk to health and safety or operational systems.
