Position Overview

As a pivotal member of our team, the Sustainability Operations Manager will play a crucial role in steering our initiatives towards environmental excellence. This position is integral to our Power Transmission & Distribution (PTD) division, focusing on the Scotland Regional PTD Portfolio. Key Responsibilities

In your capacity as the Sustainability Operations Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Driving the execution of our sustainability strategy, ensuring actions are taken, progress is monitored, and results are reported to the senior management team.
  • Identifying and managing environmental risks and opportunities, assisting project teams in formulating and upholding local environmental and sustainability management frameworks and risk assessments.
  • Leading initiatives in environmental stewardship, motivating project teams to adopt sustainable practices and innovations, achieving favorable outcomes while maintaining comprehensive project documentation.
  • Providing expert guidance on environmental management, compliance, and specific mitigation strategies, including pollution control and ecological preservation.
  • Collaborating with Environmental Advisors/Consultants and coordinating with other sustainability teams to achieve optimal sustainability results.
  • Overseeing and supporting teams in obtaining necessary consents, licenses, or permits, ensuring adherence to environmental compliance obligations.
  • Enhancing the knowledge of project teams and contractors regarding environmental and sustainability responsibilities through training sessions, workshops, and on-site educational initiatives.
  • Ensuring the timely submission of environmental data to the sustainability portal, collaborating with project teams to establish efficient processes.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate for the Sustainability Operations Manager role will possess the following qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of environmental management, particularly within a construction context.
  • Practical experience and a solid understanding of environmental regulations, including legislation, ecological mitigation, licensing, and consent processes.
  • Ability to mentor and guide junior environmental staff across various projects.
  • Strong collaborative skills to achieve the best outcomes through teamwork.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Commitment to completing tasks efficiently, with strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Proficiency in data management and reporting, with a focus on maintaining accurate records.
  • A valid driver's license and willingness to travel as required.
  • Capability to visit various project sites and attend meetings as necessary.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Membership in a relevant professional organization (IEMA/CIEEM/CIWEM) is preferred.
  • Experience in acting as a deputy for senior roles is advantageous.

Desirable Attributes

While not essential, the following attributes will be beneficial:

  • Familiarity with developing and enhancing Environmental Management Systems (EMS) certified to ISO 14001 standards.
  • Qualification as an internal environmental auditor.
  • Understanding of the construction industry, particularly in relation to power, construction, and engineering sectors.
  • A proactive approach to tackling new challenges with enthusiasm.
  • Experience in managing legislative matters for clients, including planning permissions and consents.
