About the Role

Agricultural and Farming Jobs is seeking a skilled Livestock Driver to join our team. As a Livestock Driver, you will be responsible for loading, unloading, and transporting cattle between farms, collection centers, and the abattoir, prioritizing animal welfare, safety, and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities
  • Treat animals with utmost respect, handling them calmly and quietly, and adhering to animal welfare legislation.
  • Transport cattle safely, without causing injury or suffering, while complying with all regulations.
  • Manage variables to enhance animal welfare and improve meat quality, including temperature control, careful driving practices, and loading and unloading processes.
  • Ensure animals are fit for travel, responsible for them from loading to unloading at the destination.
  • Plan routes for efficient transportation, adhering to rest periods.
  • Communicate with clients in a friendly and professional manner regarding collection times.
  • Safe loading of livestock, considering stocking density, trailer space, weight, extreme weather conditions, and animal conditions.
  • Check animals during the journey to meet their needs, including water, feed, and rest.
  • Wash and disinfect between each load.
  • Documentation: complete and sign journey logs and FCIs, ensuring cattle have correct passports and ear tags.
  • Maintain and conduct basic checks of the vehicle, including brake, oil, and tire checks.
  • Ensure the vehicle, trailer, and specialist equipment are roadworthy and safe to drive, reporting any defects.
  • Couple and uncouple trailers.
  • Perform administrative duties, such as collecting fuel receipts.
  • Adhere to all regulations, legislation, and guidelines.
Requirements
  • Practical experience handling cattle, essential.
  • Mechanical knowledge.
  • Able to cope with the physical demands of the job.
  • Clean driving license category C/CE (HGV).
  • Valid driver CPC/Valid digital tachograph card.
  • Animal Transport by Road - Short Journey certification, preferred but not essential.
