Electrical Technician

This Electrical Technician will report to the Lead Operational Engineer and will be part of the UK Power Networks Services - Client Delivery team. You will be a Permanent employee.

Your compensation will include a salary of £43,898, along with a vehicle and a performance-related bonus.

Note: Successful candidates will be required to undergo a medical examination and a background check.

Job Nature and Scope:

The role involves working independently or as part of a team within the geographical area serviced by UK Power Networks, primarily focusing on the installation, testing, and inspection of Low Voltage (LV) electrical systems and High Voltage (HV) substations.

Job Purpose:

We are seeking an Electrical Technician to engage in a comprehensive range of electrical tasks, including the installation, commissioning, and testing of LV supplies, feeder pillars, Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), and supplies for secondary and primary substations. A significant aspect of this role involves conducting the required electrical testing in accordance with the 18th Edition regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct inspections and non-intrusive diagnostic testing of all equipment associated with the LV distribution network.
  • Identify faults, perform repairs, and maintain assets within the LV distribution network.
  • Execute installations, testing, and inspections in line with the IET Wiring Regulations BS7671 and City & Guilds standards.
  • Utilize handheld IT devices for operational tasks.
  • Supervise maintenance, project, and subcontract staff within the working group.
  • Assist with various maintenance and project-related activities.
  • Perform routine emergency lighting checks and necessary remedial actions.
  • Be prepared to support other teams as required based on skills and experience.
  • Complete additional site visits to fulfill regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with Distribution Safety Rules and promote a culture of safety.
  • Manage the replacement of secondary RTU batteries and related tasks.

Qualifications:

The following qualifications and attributes are essential for this position:

  • GCSE level education or equivalent.
  • Completion of a recognized electrical apprenticeship or training program.
  • Qualifications in City and Guilds 2357, 2394, 2395, and 2391 or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with electrical distribution systems is advantageous.
  • Ability to learn on the job.
  • Understanding of the Electricity at Work Regulations.
  • First Aid training.
  • Awareness of Health & Safety policies.
  • Valid UK driving license.
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to foster collaboration.
  • Security clearance for access to client infrastructure.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a small team on high-profile projects.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety and Environmental Legislation.
  • Proficiency in data entry using handheld devices.
  • Willingness to learn and adopt new techniques.

  • Ensure timely restoration of supply and completion of work while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Utilize materials and auditing tools to verify that ordered materials align with job costs.

  • Complete tasks according to specifications and service standards.
  • Receive positive feedback from colleagues and clients regarding the understanding and execution of procedures.
