About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Senior Healthcare Support Worker to join our team at NHS Lanarkshire. As a key member of our care team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality care to our patients.

As a Senior Healthcare Support Worker, you will work closely with our registered nurses to provide person-centred care that is safe, effective, and responsive to the needs of our patients.

You will be responsible for ensuring that our patients receive the highest standard of care, and that their needs are met in a timely and efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality care to patients in accordance with our organisational policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with our registered nurses to provide person-centred care that is safe, effective, and responsive to the needs of our patients.
  • Ensure that our patients receive the highest standard of care, and that their needs are met in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of care plans that meet the needs of our patients.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and healthy environment for our patients and staff.
Requirements
  • SVQ III in healthcare, or working towards, or equivalent experience working within a caring environment/role.
  • Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary/agency team.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to carry out assigned patient care tasks effectively within a busy environment.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • To actively participate in the Personal Development Plan process to fulfil the requirements of continuing professional development.
  • Working knowledge of basic information technology.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
  • Basic wound management skills.
  • Previous experience working in the community.
  • Direct one to one care experience.
  • Wide range of caring experience.
  • Awareness of current developments in primary care.
  • Knowledge of approaches to risk management.
  • Knowledge and awareness of developments in the community.
  • Knowledge and awareness of supports for older people.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent team leadership skills and ability to work using own initiative.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Telephone, fax skills.
  • Required to be flexible in post.
  • Car driver with a full, valid UK/EU/EEA licence (for peripatetic role).
Contract Type and Working Hours

This is a permanent, full-time position, working 37 hours per week.

The working pattern for this role is rotational.

From 1 April 2024, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced.

Full-time hours will reduce from 37.5 to 37 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

NHS Lanarkshire will implement this change but it may not be possible to fully transition from 1 April and there may therefore be some areas of the organisation where implementation may take longer.

If the department is currently unable to safely accommodate the reduced hours from 1st April, you may be required to work 37.5 hours per week until the department can meet the requirements without impacting patient safety - you will, of course, be remunerated accordingly.

NHS Lanarkshire is committed to full implementation of the 37 hour working week across all areas as soon as it is safe to do so.
