Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity exists to become a vital member of the Aseptic Services Division within the Pharmacy Department. We invite applications from qualified Pharmacy Technicians and Science Manufacturing Technicians.

This role allows you to be part of a collaborative team dedicated to delivering critical cancer therapies to the community. Our Pharmacy Aseptic Services Unit has achieved a commendable overall risk rating, reflecting our commitment to quality and safety.

We are in search of a dedicated and proactive individual to assist the Pharmacy Aseptic Services Unit in administering chemotherapy to patients within the organization.

We seek a certified technician to join our close-knit and supportive Aseptic Services team. Ideal candidates will possess recent experience in retail, hospital, or aseptic environments, along with strong communication skills and a solid understanding of Good Manufacturing Practice. Experience in teamwork, staff oversight, training, and operational planning is also essential.

We encourage applications from Pharmacy Technicians and Science Manufacturing Technicians, regardless of prior experience in an Aseptic Services Unit. Candidates must exhibit enthusiasm and a solid understanding of this service. Comprehensive training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

To contribute to the delivery of a safe, efficient, and cost-effective Aseptic Preparation Service for the organization as part of a multidisciplinary team.

To oversee activities within the clean room environment.

To assist in the management of the service as required.

Job Responsibilities

Key Tasks Include:

  1. To assist and supervise the safe and precise provision of a chemotherapy compounding service.
  2. To support the functions of and work under the guidance of the Lead Technician and Accountable Pharmacist.
  3. To actively promote adherence to all protocols related to aseptic services and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
  4. To maintain a thorough understanding of all procedures and guidelines.
  5. To engage in the drafting, review, and updating of Standard Operating Procedures and other Quality Assurance (QA) documents.
  6. To collaborate with pharmacists, production staff, and QA personnel daily to manage workflow effectively.
  7. To participate in Pharmacy Team meetings as required.
  8. To address immediate challenges such as stock supply, staffing issues, equipment malfunctions, and capacity planning while ensuring efficient service delivery.
  9. To work collaboratively within a team, train others, and maintain a focus on detail.
  10. To possess knowledge of cytotoxic handling and the associated risks.
  11. To understand efficient stock management practices, including rotation and ordering.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications:

  • NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy services or BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent, along with professional registration as a Pharmacy Technician or Science Manufacturing Technician.

Essential Skills:

  • Methodical approach with a keen attention to detail.
  • Able to assist in training staff effectively.
  • Fluent in English with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in stock management.
  • Able to maintain high levels of concentration.
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to use initiative and remain calm under pressure.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in procedure and policy development.
  • Current knowledge of isolator technology and aseptic preparation of chemotherapy products.
  • Understanding of GMP and relevant regulations.
  • Supervisory experience.
