We are seeking a Lead Medical Communications Specialist to join our expanding team.

In this role, you will engage across multiple therapeutic domains to develop a variety of materials, ensuring that the language and content are tailored to the intended audience. Your output will consistently reflect the highest standards of quality, scientific integrity, and alignment with the relevant brand objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Confidently navigate therapeutic areas beyond your current expertise.
  • Lead discussions regarding therapy areas, factors influencing treatment decisions, and patient pathways with clients and external experts.
  • Deliver content for complex projects with minimal oversight, while delegating tasks to junior writers as necessary to ensure timely and high-quality execution.
  • Exhibit a clear and persuasive writing style, capable of crafting compelling narratives from intricate information.

  • Develop and structure innovative projects that may not have been previously undertaken.
  • Assume responsibility for the overall quality of deliverables with limited supervision.
  • Employ critical thinking to apply project briefs effectively, ensuring timely and efficient deliverables while challenging and refining client briefs as needed.
  • Balance the need for a coherent and engaging narrative within regulatory constraints.
  • Review the work of junior writers for adherence to briefs, client objectives, and writing quality, providing constructive feedback to foster professional growth.
  • Challenge client and account teams on the most effective strategies to meet client and brand needs.
  • Maintain a strategic perspective on client strategy, ensuring messaging aligns with intended goals.
  • Facilitate scientific discussions with clients and external experts to capture briefs, address queries, and advance scientific content development efficiently.
  • Effectively present work to clients, articulating the narrative clearly.
  • Contribute insights and recommendations to enhance service offerings and support the organic growth of assigned accounts.
  • Communicate scientific concepts to non-scientific colleagues in a clear and concise manner.
  • Adapt to shifting client timelines and needs while safeguarding quality control processes to maintain output, even if it requires assertive communication.
  • Identify new business opportunities with both new and existing clients proactively.
  • Assist in developing scientific strategies for other therapeutic areas for new business and present these as part of pitch presentations.
  • Mentor and guide junior writers on writing techniques and company protocols.
  • Provide scientific and editorial feedback on material development to peers in support of client objectives.
  • Drive project completion, ensuring all internal deadlines are met while proactively addressing potential issues.
  • Communicate promptly and accurately with the accounts team regarding writer hours and project status.
  • Lead meetings and strategic discussions with clients, authors, and advisors.
  • Adopt a proactive, solution-oriented approach to defining client briefs and expectations, resolving queries, and addressing feedback.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in a Medical Writing capacity within an agency setting.
  • A minimum of a Master's degree in life sciences, medicine, pharmacy, or a related field. A PhD is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure as business needs arise.
  • Exceptional written English skills, with a strong focus on vocabulary, grammar, and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and awareness.
  • Proficient in IT, particularly with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with Veeva is beneficial, though not a daily requirement.
