Community Engagement Specialist

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Greater Manchester Liaison and Diversion Team as a Community Engagement Worker. This role has been developed specifically for individuals with lived experience of vulnerabilities, including mental health, substance misuse, learning difficulties, neurodiversity, homelessness, and the Criminal Justice System, to support others who may benefit from community support and access to relevant services.
Main Responsibilities- Provide community-based support across the Greater Manchester footprint.
- Support and promote recovery from vulnerabilities and challenges using a user-led concept.
- Act as an advocate and agree goals with clients to support access to relevant services.
- Work closely with the Criminal Justice Services and Voluntary sector.
- Refer clients into and signpost onto appropriate support services in the local community.
Greater Manchester Mental Health (GMMH) Foundation Trust employs over 6,400 members of staff, delivering services from more than 160 locations. We provide inpatient and community-based mental health care for people living in Bolton, Manchester, Salford, Trafford, and Wigan, as well as a wide range of specialist mental health and substance misuse services across Greater Manchester and beyond.

We are looking for individuals with the following qualifications and experience:
- GCSE Maths and English (grades C-E or Level 1 as minimum).
- IT competency, including MS Office, Outlook, and Word.
- Lived experience of vulnerabilities, such as mental health, substance misuse, homelessness, or the Criminal Justice System.
- Support work experience, either volunteering or paid.
We would also like to hear from individuals with the following experience:
- Criminal Justice System lived or professional experience.
- Experience of working in tandem with support services, such as ASC, Probation, Drug and Alcohol services.
- Experience or study of using communication methods, such as active listening, rapport building, and motivational interviewing.
