General Summary:

The Senior Staff Engineer in System Validation and Emulation (SVE) plays a crucial role in the pre-silicon emulation and post-silicon validation of Qualcomm's Audio Intellectual Properties (IPs). This position is essential for ensuring that products meet stringent performance criteria and are prepared for mass production. A deep understanding of both hardware and software is required, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills to create innovative testing systems, implement automation, conduct thorough testing, and optimize performance while addressing any arising issues. Key technologies include audio products that integrate various IPs such as Audio, Bluetooth, WiFi, Power Management, Clock Management, and Active Noise Cancellation (ANC).

Collaboration with diverse Qualcomm teams, including Analog/Digital Design, Software, and System Engineering, is vital for developing and executing optimized system validation strategies. The Senior Staff Engineer in SVE is also expected to exhibit leadership qualities, manage tasks independently, deliver high-quality results, and mentor junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the capture of validation requirements and facilitate associated cross-functional reviews.
  • Proactively spearhead team and cross-functional initiatives to enhance project execution efficiency.
  • Design and develop innovative testing systems and automated solutions to improve operational efficiency, including ongoing maintenance.
  • Assess and optimally utilize testing equipment (e.g., power supplies, spectrum analyzers, audio analyzers).
  • Participate in and lead pre/post-silicon validation bring-up, compliance testing, and debugging processes.
  • Optimize IP performance and troubleshoot complex hardware and software challenges.
  • Conduct complex data manipulation using modern data science techniques to analyze and extract statistical insights.
  • Oversee the collation, summarization, and presentation of data for technical and program-level reviews.
  • Provide advanced technical support and documentation for both internal and external stakeholders as necessary.
  • Guide the creation of relevant documentation deliverables in accordance with departmental processes.
  • Dedicate time to personal and team development to foster knowledge growth.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field with 6+ years of experience in ASIC design, verification, validation, integration, or related work experience.
OR
• Master's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field with 5+ years of experience in ASIC design, verification, validation, integration, or related work experience.
OR
• PhD in Science, Engineering, or a related field with 4+ years of experience in ASIC design, verification, validation, integration, or related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 12+ years of experience in Hardware Engineering or a related field.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to effectively manage resources and tasks, multitask efficiently, and strategically plan to navigate potential challenges.
  • Experience with audio products, including audio or radio IPs.
  • Demonstrated success in pre/post-silicon validation of analog and/or digital IPs.
  • Familiarity with processor and DSP architectures.
  • Understanding of analog and digital circuit design.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C and Python.
  • Experience with source control, code quality, bug management, and release management tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub/Perforce, Jira, Crucible).
  • Capability to debug intricate software and hardware issues.
  • Proficiency with laboratory equipment including audio analyzers, Bluetooth testers, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers in complex technical features, testing strategies, and automation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey complex information and positively influence others.
  • Aptitude for drawing inferences and highlighting key points from complex datasets.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of ANC theories and practices in applications such as headsets and automotive systems.
  • Experience in real-world ANC product design and/or verification.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Experience in a technical leadership role, with or without direct reports.
  • Proficient in System Verilog, C#, and R programming languages.
  • Ability to develop innovative testing solutions, including complex automation.
  • Knowledge of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and NFC standards.
  • In-depth understanding of Analog and Digital Audio, Power Management Units (PMU), Battery Management, Clock Management, Peripherals, Power Optimization techniques, and Signal Processing.
  • Familiarity with database management.
