Position Overview
The University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated Lead Clinical Fellow in Hematology to join our Cancer Care directorate. This role primarily involves ward-based responsibilities, offering a diverse range of experiences while participating in on-call duties. The objective of this position is to enhance the newly structured hematology service by contributing to a robust team that delivers exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct patient assessments and reviews, ensuring accurate documentation in patient records.
- Manage drug prescriptions and oversee discharge processes.
- Regularly update patient management systems and attend outpatient clinics.
- Participate in Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings and facilitate appropriate triage to medical teams.
- Engage in ward rounds and actively participate in the hematology on-call shift system.
The position operates during standard working hours, with additional responsibilities during on-call shifts.

Qualifications and Skills
Essential:
- Full GMC Registration.
- Proficient in safe clinical practices.
- Understanding of service needs and patient safety principles.
- Effective communication skills.
- Able to recognize personal limitations and manage stressful situations.
- Prioritize clinical responsibilities effectively.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with basic audit principles.
- Previous experience in hematology.
- Passion for hematology and a desire to expand knowledge in the specialty.
Fitness to Practice
Essential:
- Current and fit to practice safely.
Experience Requirements
Essential:
- A minimum of 4 months of NHS experience.
- At least 2 years of post-qualification experience.
- Demonstrated successful completion of foundation competencies.
Desirable:
- At least 6 months of prior experience in cancer care specialties, including hematology and oncology.
