Main Duties and Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Band 6 Deputy Team Leader to join our theatre team at the Royal Free Hospital. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for assessing care needs, ensuring planned care is implemented and evaluated, and providing specialist advice without direct supervision. You will also lead the multi-disciplinary team in the absence of the Team Leader and assist in the leadership and development of practitioners within the department.

The successful candidate will have significant experience in scrub and circulating practice, with a recognized postgraduate theatre course and excellent communication skills. You will be able to work as part of a team, prioritize workload, and manage difficult situations. We are looking for a positive and motivated individual with attention to detail and a commitment to delivering excellent patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess care needs and ensure planned care is implemented and evaluated
  • Provide specialist advice without direct supervision
  • Lead the multi-disciplinary team in the absence of the Team Leader
  • Assist in the leadership and development of practitioners within the department
  • Comply with the NMC or HCPC Code of Professional Conduct and demonstrate knowledge and application of Departmental and Trust policies and procedures
  • Participate in the on-call rota as required
  • Act as a Theatre Coordinator during out-of-hours and weekends
Person Specification
  • Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust Values
Education and Professional Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse/ODP
  • Recognised Post Graduate Theatre Course ENB176 / EBP course
Experience
  • Significant experience in scrub and circulating practice (at Band 5 or above)
  • Experience in managing junior staff including appraisal, performance, absence, selection, and recruitment
  • Budgetary experience particularly in staff and consumable costs
  • Good written, numeracy & verbal communication skills
  • Awareness of clinical issues within the theatre department
  • Able to work as part of a team within set boundaries
  • Able to prioritise workload
  • Able to work under pressure in a dynamic environment and manage difficult situations
  • Positive and motivated with attention to detail
