About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic team at G&H in Torquay. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the development of mechanical designs for fiber optics components and systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop mechanical designs for new products, ensuring they meet performance and reliability requirements.
  • Design and develop jigs and fixtures using SolidWorks, ensuring efficient manufacturing processes.
  • Communicate design needs and findings to team members, clients, or manufacturing partners, conveying design comprehensively.
  • Collaborate with contractors and supply chain to ensure designs are delivered to specified quality standards, within project budget, and achieved timescales.
  • Translate engineering ideas into mechanical solutions, implementing best practice solutions.
  • Participate in part number creation and generate drawings suitable for manufacturing (e.g., BS standards).
  • Deliver projects within budget constraints and progress ECO through the mechanical design stage.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering and proven experience in mechanical design.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks software, with a strong understanding of mechanical design principles and best practices.
  • Solid grasp of materials science and knowledge of various manufacturing processes, such as injection molding, CNC machining, and 3D printing.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to analyze complex technical challenges.
  • Strong communication skills, with ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Detail-oriented approach with a commitment to producing high-quality designs.
  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and other simulation tools is a plus.
  • Self-motivated individual with a passion for innovation and continuous learning.
