Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be pivotal in enhancing our strategies related to food waste reduction and circular economy initiatives. Working within the Corporate Responsibility Team, you will engage with diverse stakeholders across our supply chains and operations to fulfill our sustainability goals. Your tasks will include developing and executing the overarching environmental sustainability strategy, with a specific emphasis on food waste management and circularity. You will oversee the food waste and redistribution program, collaborating closely with retail and operational teams to establish clear processes and pathways for achieving our targets. Additionally, you will lead the Circularity program within our General Merchandise (GM) sector, integrating our approach and building partnerships with relevant organizations. Your duties will also encompass managing supplier relationships, analyzing sustainability data, handling complex projects, and overseeing communication and reporting efforts. Your enthusiasm for sustainability, strong communication abilities, and capacity to navigate a matrix-style organization will be vital for the successful implementation of our sustainability initiatives.

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are looking for a seasoned and dedicated professional with extensive experience in environmental sustainability, particularly in food waste management and circular economy strategies. A degree in a relevant field, coupled with substantial practical experience, is essential. You should possess a comprehensive understanding of the WRAP food waste hierarchy and principles of circularity, along with experience in managing supplier relationships and complex sustainability projects. Your exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, will enable you to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders and influence decisions at all levels. As a leader, you will exhibit strong project management capabilities, consistently prioritizing sustainable outcomes. Your analytical thinking and systems approach will help you navigate complex information and challenges to make informed decisions that align with Sainsbury's values and sustainability objectives.
