Main Purpose of the Role
The Cost Manager will be responsible for delivering high-quality cost management services to clients, ensuring that their objectives are met through effective cost management.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in feasibility studies and write procurement reports
- Estimate and cost plan, including producing and presenting the final cost plan, utilizing relevant cost management tools and services
- Tender and procure, including managing the pre-qualification stage, producing the tender list, producing the preliminaries, tender analysis, producing the tender report, and compiling the contractual documents
- Conduct the role of contract administrator, including dealing effectively with post-contract cost variances and change control processes
- Take personal responsibility for making cost checks and carrying out valuations on larger projects, ensuring timely and accurate cost checking and valuation
- Produce monthly post-contract cost reports and present them to the client
- Negotiate and agree final accounts
- Interface with the client, Project Manager, and other consultants at all project stages
- Work collaboratively with Turner & Townsend's project management team during project delivery
- Where appropriate, lead a cost management team, ensuring they deliver on all key responsibilities
- Utilize our full suite of bespoke digital cost management tools and services
- Implement our Embodied Carbon Calculator, a bespoke carbon accounting tool, to produce carbon footprint reports
- Support the execution of our NewLeaf strategy
- Manage internal fees, internal job costing, and resourcing requirements
Reporting Structure
The Cost Manager will report to a Senior Cost Manager or Associate Director, depending on the context.
Key Performance Indicators
- Commissions are managed to the right quality standards and are completed efficiently and on time
- Service delivery on commissions is in line with the conditions of appointment
- Good relationships are developed with clients and members of the cross-functional team
- They work as an effective member of the cost management team, including where appropriate, taking effective responsibility for Assistant Cost Managers
- Opportunities are identified to develop new business with existing clients
- Margin levels are kept track of on all commissions
- Key information and data are effectively cascaded and appropriately retained
Requirements
- Ability to work with autonomy
- A self-motivated individual who is able to take initiative and deliver to tight deadlines
- Working towards or recently achieved Chartered Status
- Have a confident and professional manner
- Highly organized and ability to prioritize own workload
- Ability to collaborate and build relationships across the business
- Ability to work well under pressure
Qualifications
- A proven track record of delivering high-quality cost management/quantity surveying services across the full project lifecycle
- Professionally qualified (RICS or similar)
- Degree or HNC level qualification
