Role Overview:

The Operations Manager will oversee all operational cleaning functions within the contract, which includes managing personnel, equipment, and financial responsibilities. This role involves leading and developing a skilled management team and a workforce of cleaning and waste operatives, as well as handling recruitment and training initiatives for new hires.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise personnel management, including training, attendance, and disciplinary actions through cleaning supervisors.
  • Ensure adherence to safe working practices by implementing company and health & safety protocols.
  • Oversee all operational cleaning tasks to guarantee timely service delivery that meets or exceeds customer expectations.
  • Manage resources effectively to promote efficient teamwork and individual performance, including capacity and resource planning.
  • Monitor financial performance by comparing actual costs to budgeted figures, utilizing visual management techniques as necessary.
  • Drive initiatives for continuous improvement to enhance cost efficiency, quality, and service delivery for both the organization and clients.
  • Oversee the reporting of key performance indicators (KPIs) and ensure timely submission of reports.
  • Ensure cleaning operations are conducted safely, focusing on:
    • Availability of necessary risk assessments and method statements
    • Adherence to current best practices
    • Utilization of required visual aids
  • Develop and motivate direct reports to foster a high-performance culture.
  • Facilitate effective communication with all staff members, both verbally and in writing.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring the company’s image reflects the high standards expected.
  • Manage client interactions to ensure exceptional service delivery.
  • Maintain knowledge of company human resources processes, ensuring compliance and providing support to the HR team as needed.
  • Ensure all staff possess the necessary competencies for their roles, providing training and development opportunities while keeping accurate training records.
  • Establish a clear understanding of customer quality standards and implement audit processes to meet both customer and company expectations.

Reporting to the Regional General Manager, the Operations Manager will oversee a workforce of over 150 employees across multiple shifts. Responsibilities will also include managing waste processing equipment and coordinating with subcontractors to ensure proper waste disposal.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • HNC or equivalent qualification
  • Demonstrated management or supervisory experience
  • Proven track record in customer-focused cleaning contract management
  • Strong understanding of the waste management sector
  • Experience in a manufacturing or factory setting
  • Knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations
  • Proficient in computer applications (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience in effectively addressing customer inquiries and complaints
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Experience in resource planning
  • Knowledge of cost control measures
  • Proven ability to delegate tasks effectively
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple responsibilities.
