Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management
    • Take charge of the neonatal unit on a shift-by-shift basis, ensuring effective communication and coordination among team members.
    • Provide clinical leadership and supervision to nursing and medical staff, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
    • Identify and lead on specific service areas, driving innovation and best practices in neonatal care.
  • Clinical Expertise
    • Provide expert clinical assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for sick and pre-term babies and their families, demonstrating family-centered care.
    • Offer expert advice to parents and carers, serving as a resource to other members of staff.
  • Communication and Collaboration
    • Ensure effective communication across the nursing team, with other disciplines, and agencies in the exchange of complex or sensitive information.
    • Develop and maintain good working relationships with all grades of staff and multidisciplinary teams.
    • Provide empathetic communication with stressed or bereaved families.
  • Professional Development
    • Participate in ongoing professional development, staying up-to-date with the latest evidence-based practices and research in neonatal care.
    • Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and guidelines that promote best practices in neonatal care.
Person Specification

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified in specialty
  • Mentorship or equivalent
  • 2 years' experience as a Band 5 nurse

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Leadership course
  • Extended study Fine training, baby-friendly
  • NICU experience

Knowledge and Skills
