About the Role

We are seeking a talented and motivated individual to join our team as a Scientific Software Engineer Industrial Placement. This is an exciting opportunity to work with our team of experts in scientific computing and software development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement software solutions for use at STFC
  • Use continuous integration systems to develop software within our continuous delivery pipeline
  • Take part in Agile development processes
  • Undertake training in relevant tools and techniques
About the Team

Our team is responsible for developing and maintaining software used by scientists at STFC and other research institutions. We work closely with our colleagues in the scientific community to understand their needs and develop software solutions that meet those needs.

Requirements
  • Currently enrolled on an undergraduate degree course and returning to university/studies to complete your undergraduate degree following the placement
  • Are required or have requested to take an industrial placement year
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement
  • Able to commence employment in summer 2025
  • Studying for a degree in a software engineering, computer science, natural science or a strongly related subject
  • Good communication skills
  • Willingness to learn new skills, both technical and non-technical
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Ability to program in a modern language
  • An interest in computing and science
