Trading Standards Officer

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Trading Standards Officer to join our team at Powys County Council. As a Trading Standards Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that businesses operate within the law and that consumers are protected from unfair trading practices.

About You:

  • You will have a strong understanding of Trading Standards legislation and enforcement, including Food Standards, Feed Hygiene, and Product Safety.
  • You will be highly organized, accurate, and flexible, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • You will be able to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong eye for detail and the ability to work under pressure.
  • You will be willing to carry out duties at flexible times, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • You will have previous experience of working in a local authority environment and knowledge of local authority Trading Standards legislation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake routine inspections and respond to complaints and enquiries relating to Trading Standards activities.
  • Provide advice and assistance to businesses.
  • Work closely with other Council departments, government agencies, external partners, and members of the public.
  • Apply relevant legislation and guidance, and undertake investigations or enforcement as appropriate.
