Trading Standards Officer

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Trading Standards Officer to join our team at Powys County Council.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will assist the Trading Standards Service in providing a full range of functions in accordance with relevant objectives, policies, and procedures.

About You:

  • You will have knowledge and experience of full range of Trading Standards legislation and enforcement, including Food Standards, Feed Hygiene, and Product Safety.
  • You will be organised, accurate, and flexible with strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work on your own initiative.
  • You may have an appropriate professional qualification or experience in a related field.
  • You will be adaptable and organised, with an eye for detail and capable of working under pressure.
  • You must be willing to carry out duties at flexible times, including occasional evenings/weekends.
  • Previous experience of working in a local authority environment and knowledge of the complete range of local authority Trading Standards legislation and experience of working in a statutory/regulatory role are desirable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake routine inspections and respond to complaints and enquiries relating to Trading Standards activities and support other officers in the team with this work and their development.
  • Provide advice and assistance to businesses.
  • Work closely with other Council departments, government agencies, external partners, and members of the public.
  • Apply relevant legislation and guidance and undertake investigations or enforcement as appropriate.
  • Prepare case files for prosecution and attend court/tribunals/hearings as required.
