Junior Sterilization Services Associate

Position Overview
The role of a Junior Sterilization Services Associate involves supporting the Decontamination Technician Supervisors in delivering a specialized service for the decontamination of medical instruments, which is essential for patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the systematic decontamination processes, including the reception, disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, packaging, and sterilization of reusable medical instruments. Ensure all activities are documented in the Healthcare Science Information Systems for tracking purposes.
- Adhere to the established Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Management Systems of the department.
- Engage in tasks that may involve exposure to biological materials.
Main Duties
- Follow departmental policies and quality standards diligently.
- Under supervision, reprocess reusable medical instruments, ensuring proper disassembly, cleaning, disinfection, assembly, sterilization, and dispatch in a controlled environment.
- Provide collection and delivery services to the department's clientele.
- Notify supervisors of any shortages in raw materials and ensure proper stock rotation.
- Meet departmental workload demands while maintaining high-quality standards, as evaluated through in-process checks and reports.
- Conduct preliminary investigations into non-conformance reports as directed.
- Utilize manual dexterity and focus for the disassembly and reassembly of medical instruments according to manufacturer guidelines.
- Operate decontamination machinery and perform routine tests in line with Planned Preventative Maintenance schedules and quality standards.
- Communicate effectively with users and healthcare staff, providing assistance and seeking scientific guidance when necessary.
- Perform additional duties as required, consistent with the responsibilities of the position and the needs of the service.

Job Requirements
Education:
- Essential: GCSE Grade 9-4 or equivalent, including Mathematics and English.
Work Experience:
- Essential: Some relevant work experience.
- Desirable: Experience in a hospital setting or within a Sterile Services Department.
