Healthcare Assistant RoleWe are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Healthcare Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will play a vital part in providing high-quality care to our patients, assisting with their daily needs and supporting the wider healthcare team.
Responsibilities- Provide personal care to patients, including assistance with bathing, dressing, and toileting
- Assist with meals and feeding as required
- Monitor patient vital signs and report any changes to the nursing staff
- Maintain a clean and hygienic environment for patients
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues
- Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives
- Adhere to all relevant policies, standards, and guidelines
Essential Criteria
- Proven experience in a customer care role
- Experience working under indirect supervision
- Previous experience in a general practice or care environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain strong relationships with patients and colleagues
- Ability to remain calm and composed in a busy working environment
- Clear and precise communication skills, both written and verbal
- Tact, diplomacy, and empathy, particularly when interacting with anxious patients
- Flexibility, reliability, and responsiveness to change
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Commitment to ongoing education and training
- Full driving licence and own transport are essential for travelling between sites and occasional home visits
- Hepatitis B immunity or willingness to undergo the necessary vaccination
Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding of the Healthcare Assistant role and patient interactions
- Knowledge of confidentiality principles and their application
- Familiarity with EMIS or other clinical systems
Physical Skills
- Manual dexterity and manipulation skills
- Ability to handle basic medical equipment (e.g., ECG machine)
- Capacity to assist others with the delivery of care, including minor surgical procedures
Qualifications
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills
- NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification or experience preferred
- Certificate of competence in phlebotomy or equivalent
- Proficient computer and keyboard skills
- Up-to-date Basic Life Support certification
