Job Overview:

The Early Years Foundation Stage Teaching Assistant is essential in fostering the educational growth and development of young learners. Collaborating closely with the class teacher, the EYFS TA is responsible for cultivating a supportive, engaging, and secure atmosphere where children can discover, learn, and thrive. This position entails assisting with daily tasks, promoting both individual and group learning experiences, and nurturing positive connections with children and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitating Learning:
    • Assist in implementing the EYFS curriculum, guiding children through play, structured activities, and personalized interactions.
    • Promote children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth by engaging them in diverse activities that spark their curiosity and creativity.
    • Utilize observations and assessments to aid the class teacher in monitoring children's development and identifying areas requiring additional support.
  • Classroom Organization:
    • Help establish and maintain a well-organized, inviting classroom environment that encourages independence and creativity.
    • Support the class teacher in positively managing behavior, employing strategies that foster good manners, cooperation, and respect among students.
    • Supervise children during both indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Personal Assistance:
    • Assist children with personal care requirements, such as dressing, toileting, and hygiene, ensuring these routines are conducted with respect for the child's dignity and privacy.
    • Encourage children to develop self-care skills, promoting their independence over time.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work in partnership with the class teacher to share insights regarding children's development, contributing to the planning and preparation of activities.
    • Effectively communicate with parents and guardians, providing updates on their child's progress and addressing any concerns.
    • Collaborate with other staff members, including fellow TAs and specialists, to ensure consistent support for all children.
  • Engagement with Learners:
    • Establish strong, trusting relationships with children, offering comfort and reassurance when necessary.
    • Encourage language development by engaging children in conversation, storytelling, and singing.
    • Inspire a love for learning by making activities enjoyable, engaging, and tailored to the children's unique interests and abilities.
  • Professional Growth:
    • Engage in professional development opportunities to remain informed about best practices in early childhood education.
    • Reflect on personal practices, seeking feedback and striving for continuous improvement.
  • Child Protection:
    • Adhere to the school's safeguarding policies, ensuring the protection of all children.
    • Promptly report any safeguarding concerns to the designated safeguarding lead.

Qualifications:

  • Essential:
    • Level 2 or 3 Early Years qualification or equivalent.
    • Experience working with young children, particularly in an educational environment.
    • Understanding of the EYFS framework and principles of child development.
  • Desirable:
    • Paediatric First Aid certification.
    • Experience working with children with special educational needs (SEN).
