About the Role

The Senior Analyst will be a content leader in the battery raw materials research team, with a focus on the lithium market and EV and ESS applications. The Senior Analyst contributes directly to the overall house view, overseeing data collection and analysis, and delivering market balance and price forecasts. Specifically, they will lead on providing a coherent picture of supply, demand, capacity, costs and key industry trends and drivers, and produce our short- and long-term lithium forecasts.

You will be joining a dynamic global team of researchers dedicated to understanding the rapidly evolving energy transition and battery raw materials markets. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced and innovative environment, have a can-do attitude and can juggle a wide variety of tasks and projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead on Lithium Market Analysis and Forecasts: Identify necessary data inputs and oversee procurement, collection, cleaning and validating for forecasting lithium supply.
  • Develop and Maintain Forecast Models: Analyze and integrate lithium demand forecasts for EV and ESS applications to develop, produce and update supply/demand, market balance and price forecasts, considering cost and other critical metrics.
  • Contribute to Content Creation: Supplement forecast models with content creation on the battery raw materials market, technology development, regulatory/policy developments, supply, demand, capacity, trade and other factors that impact the industry.
  • Author and Update Forecast Reports: Be the lead author of Fastmarkets' Quarterly Lithium Long-term Forecast, and control input from internal and external contributors to guarantee timely and coherent updates for our customers.
  • Support Client Enquiries: Manage client and internal enquiries about the lithium and the wider battery raw materials market and be accountable for fulfillment of requests for insight and data for presentations and interviews.
  • Present at Industry Events: Data and analysis contributions for presentations at industry events, forums, webinars and product marketing.
  • Support Product Development: Support the development of new and enhanced forecast products.
  • Engage with Market Participants: Use their network to engage with market participants, gain insights across the value chain, promote Fastmarkets data and insights and identify opportunities for product enhancements.
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert: Act as subject matter expert to showcase value to prospective clients in partnership with sales.
  • Collaborate on Consulting Projects: Work with consulting on projects by interacting with clients, helping specify and design studies which deliver to client needs, undertaking primary and secondary research, and supporting delivery.

Requirements
  • Knowledge of Lithium and Battery Raw Materials: In-depth knowledge of lithium and working knowledge of other battery raw materials, battery chemistries, EV and ESS markets.
  • Relevant Experience: 2-4 years of relevant data collection, management, analysis and forecast model development experience, including internship(s).
  • Preferred Experience: Previous experience in battery or commodities research, mining and refining, commodities trading and/or industrial manufacturing.
  • Data Analysis and Forecasting: Strong data identification and acquisition expertise conducted via primary and secondary research.
  • Statistical Modelling and Forecasting: Comprehensive understanding of statistical modelling and forecasting, particularly with regards to time series data, and some exposure to machine learning a plus.
  • Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Able to critically assess statistical analyses and forecast models and suggest improvements.
  • Communication and Presentation: Excellent writing and verbal skills.
  • Confidence and Flexibility: Confident with presenting at industry events and speaking to customers etc.
