Position Overview

North Bristol NHS Trust is seeking a dedicated and experienced part-time band 8a pharmacist to oversee the pharmaceutical services related to end-of-life care. The successful candidate will collaborate with local hospice services, providing essential clinical pharmacy support.

This role requires a professional with the necessary expertise to lead, manage, and enhance the current pharmaceutical services in palliative care. The individual will also be responsible for offering specialized pharmaceutical advice and support to both the Trust and associated hospice services.

The hospice is a charitable organization committed to delivering care and support to individuals facing progressive life-limiting illnesses. The inpatient unit is staffed by specialists who provide comprehensive care focused on symptom management and end-of-life support. The role will involve close collaboration with the medical leadership and pharmacy teams within the unit.

Our pharmacy department is extensive, comprising over 80 pharmacists, including numerous specialists.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the provision, management, and enhancement of a specialized pharmaceutical service for palliative care, ensuring high standards of efficiency and effectiveness.

• Mentor pharmacists pursuing postgraduate education, facilitating their learning and professional growth, while providing constructive feedback on their progress.

• Engage in departmental quality improvement initiatives to optimize the delivery of pharmaceutical care.

• Actively develop clinical pharmacy services in alignment with local and national healthcare objectives.

• Participate in board and consultant ward rounds, offering pharmaceutical expertise.

• Contribute to multidisciplinary teams focused on developing protocols, policies, and guidelines in the specialized area of palliative care.

• Lead the review and formulation of clinical guidelines and protocols to ensure the safe, effective, and economical use of medications.
