Position Title: Instrumentation and Control Systems Engineer
Location: Various locations with flexible working arrangements available.
Salary: Competitive salary based on experience, ranging from £40,000 to £60,000.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop functional specifications and associated Bill of Materials for control and instrumentation solutions tailored for intricate propulsion, mechanical, and electrical systems, including deriving designs from Piping & Instrumentation diagrams.
- Specify instrumentation for measuring pressure, temperature, flow, level, and analysis, ensuring suitability for specific process conditions.
- Define remote functionalities for control and instrumentation solutions, including Human Machine Interfaces and Cable Management & Interface Protocols.
- Create designs that meet a broad spectrum of requirements, including functional, safety, defense, British, naval, and nuclear standards.
- Assess compliance against non-functional stakeholder requirements such as EMC, Shock, and Metallic standards.
- Generate verification documentation to demonstrate design compliance with established requirements.
- Produce various design documents, including I/O schedules, instrument schedules, cable schedules, functional design specifications, and instrument specifications.
- Implement physical system-to-system interface designs.
- Lead and participate in technical design reviews for control and instrumentation systems.
Required Skills and Experience:
Essential:
- A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) or equivalent experience in an engineering context.
- A multi-disciplinary understanding of engineering principles, including Mechanical, Process, Instrument, Electrical, Control, and Safety.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with control system architecture and communication protocols (e.g., RS-485, PROFIBUS).
- Experience in completing and verifying designs in accordance with IEC 61508 – Functional Safety or similar standards, along with the production of supporting evidence for safety claims.
- Experience in specifying equipment for use in hazardous areas and producing verification documentation such as Hazardous Area Schedules and Intrinsically Safe Loop Calculations.
