Veterinary Technician - Inpatient IMC/ICU/ER (Swing Shift)

Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a skilled Veterinary Technician to join our team in the Intermediate Care (IMC), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and Emergency Room (ER) section of our Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital.

This is a monthly rotating swing shift position, requiring flexibility and adaptability. The successful candidate will work directly with the IMC clinicians and rotating intern doctors to provide quality care and patient flow through the IMC, ICU, and ER.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with administering treatments and monitoring patients in IMC or ICU, observing and recording vital data, abnormal signs, body weight, food/water intake of animals, and collecting and labeling specimens.
  • Perform and demonstrate veterinary care techniques and procedures related to emergency and critical care medicine.
  • Assist veterinarians in the care of patients requiring advanced procedures and life-saving techniques, including CPR, mechanical ventilation, and dialysis.
  • Inspect facilities, equipment, and supplies daily, observing health status of animals, environmental conditions, temperature, and sanitation.
  • Work as essential personnel, providing care for patients after hours, on weekends, and holidays.

Requirements:

  • Active license with the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medicine as a Veterinary Technician, or have met all requirements to become licensed in the State of Alabama. Licensure must be obtained within 6 months of hire date.
  • Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain certification.
  • 2-4 years of experience working in a veterinary hospital environment, depending on level of certification.
