Role Overview

The Yacht Commissioning Associate plays a crucial role in the testing, commissioning, and preparation of new Oyster Yachts, ensuring they meet the highest standards before delivery to clients. This position also involves crewing Oyster yachts for local movements, sea trials, handover sails, and offshore deliveries.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Commissioning Manager and Commissioning Skipper to achieve set targets and timelines for the commissioning, rigging, and launching of Oyster Yachts, including working at heights when necessary. Training will be provided, and adherence to Oyster's Safe Systems of Work is mandatory.
  • Assist in the testing and preparation of new yachts under the guidance of the Commissioning Skipper, Commissioning Manager, and Project Manager, ensuring readiness for client handover.
  • Participate in Builders' Trials and support Client Handover Trials.
  • Contribute to enhancing Quality Control alongside the Commissioning Skipper and Commissioning Manager.
  • Identify and report recurring issues, highlighting areas needing improvement in finishing or design.
  • Ensure quality and specifications are met, aiming for a presentation with minimal warranty faults or defects, targeting 'zero defects at handover.'
  • Act as a liaison through the Commissioning Skipper and Commissioning Manager with clients, Oyster Build yards, and suppliers during the commissioning and handover process.
  • Assist in the setup and breakdown of boat shows, both domestically and internationally, which may involve occasional delivery passages of show boats, including working during non-standard hours.
  • Support Aftersales and Warranty services as needed, including potential overseas trips for vessels.
  • Facilitate clients during their initial delivery passages, coordinating with the Commissioning Manager and Project Manager.
  • Manage the organization of Oyster store sheds and the Commissioning Department office, overseeing the storage of both Oyster's and clients' equipment prior to handover.
  • Maintain a positive image of Oyster through all client interactions, providing advice, handover, warranty, and after-sales support during both business and social engagements.
  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and valeting of Oyster-owned and client yachts at Ipswich, which may involve challenging tasks in adverse weather conditions.
  • Comply with the company's Health and Safety regulations, upholding high standards of safety and professionalism.
Qualifications and SkillsEssential Knowledge and Skills
  • Familiarity with Oyster Yachts is preferred.
  • Understanding of the marine industry.
Skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic boat handling abilities.
Experience
  • Prior sailing experience is beneficial.
Qualifications
  • RYA/MCA Sailing Qualification is required.
