Marine Commissioning Technician

The primary responsibility of the Commissioning Assistant is to support the testing, commissioning, and maintenance of new Oyster Yachts across the full range, as well as assisting in the crewing of these yachts for local movements, sea trials, handover sails, and offshore deliveries.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with the Commissioning Manager and Commissioning Skipper to meet established targets and timelines for the commissioning, rigging, and launching of Oyster Yachts. This may occasionally require working at heights, including mast work, with training provided and adherence to Oyster's Safe Systems of Work.
- Prepare and test new yachts under the guidance of the Commissioning Skipper, Commissioning Manager, and Project Manager, ensuring readiness for client handover.
- Participate in Builders' Trials and assist during Client Handover Trials.
- Aid the Commissioning Skipper and Commissioning Manager in enhancing Quality Control processes.
- Identify and report recurring issues, highlighting areas for improvement in finishing or design.
- Ensure quality and specifications are met, aiming for minimal warranty faults or defects, with a target of 'zero defects at handover.'
- Act as a liaison between clients, Oyster Build yards, and suppliers during the commissioning and handover phases.
- Assist in the setup and breakdown of boat shows, both domestically and internationally, which may include occasional delivery passages of show boats. This may require working outside of standard hours, including holiday periods.
- Support Aftersales and Warranty services as needed, including potential overseas trips for vessels.
- Facilitate initial delivery passages for clients, coordinating with the Commissioning Manager and respective Project Manager.
- Manage the storage and organization of equipment in Oyster's store sheds and Commissioning Department office, ensuring proper care of both Oyster's and clients' equipment prior to handover.
- Uphold Oyster's reputation through positive client interactions, including advice, handover, warranty, and after-sales support, during both business and social engagements.
- Conduct routine maintenance, cleaning, and valeting of Oyster-owned and client yachts at the Ipswich facility, which may involve working in challenging weather conditions.
- Adhere to the company's Health and Safety policies and regulations, maintaining high standards of safety and professionalism.
Knowledge
- Familiarity with Oyster Yachts is advantageous.
- Understanding of the marine industry.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic boat handling abilities.
- Experience in sailing.
- RYA/MCA Sailing Qualification.
