Position Overview

The Facilities Management Department is responsible for delivering a comprehensive service for the upkeep, repair, and installation of the buildings, grounds, engineering services, and related equipment across the organization.

Applicants should possess a recognized trade apprenticeship along with a minimum qualification of BTEC, ONC, HNC, or an equivalent certification/experience. Previous experience in electro-mechanical maintenance is preferred, as is familiarity with Health & Safety regulations.

A valid UK (manual) driving license is required, and candidates should reside within a reasonable commuting distance to fulfill on-call responsibilities.

This role operates Monday to Friday, with participation in an emergency on-call rota and opportunities for additional hours and weekend work.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a Facilities/Engineering environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of complex building services along with practical capabilities.
  • Completion of a structured apprenticeship or training program.
  • Experience with Planned Maintenance Computer-Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) systems.
  • Experience in a KPI-driven environment.
  • A minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role.

Desirable

  • Experience within the healthcare sector.

Technical Skills Competencies

Essential

  • Strong technical knowledge of the built environment, services, plant, and equipment, particularly in relation to hospital equipment.

Desirable

  • Competence in electrical, mechanical, and building services.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Ability to diagnose faults using technical drawings, manuals, and specialized database systems.
  • Familiarity with permit-to-work systems in accordance with Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs).
  • In-depth understanding of Health & Safety regulations.
  • Proficient in Building Management Systems (BMS) with the ability to analyze and make adjustments.

Desirable

  • Experience in an NHS engineering context.

Interpersonal Skills

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage with individuals at all levels.
  • A collaborative team player.

Other Requirements

Essential

  • Willingness to participate in an 'Out of Hours On-Call Rota.'
  • Possession of a driving license and access to a suitable vehicle for on-call duties.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters appropriately.
  • Good overall fitness level to meet the demands of the position.

  • ONC/HNC in an Engineering discipline or equivalent, or City & Guilds Electrical/Mechanical Engineering Parts 1, 2 & 3 or equivalent.
  • Authorized Person (AP) for essential HTM services Electrical HV/LV.
  • IOSH Health & Safety management certification.
