About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Secretary to join our Vascular Surgery Department. As a key member of the team, you will provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to Consultants and clinical teams, ensuring the smooth operation of the department.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide efficient and high-quality secretarial and administrative support to Consultants and clinical teams
  • Ensure the safe and efficient communication between Consultants and scheduling for weekly meetings
  • Liaise closely with and be an active and supportive member of the wider team within the department
  • Support the Speciality Manager with RTT validation booking/cancelling appointment, liaising with clinician and other staff etc.

Person Specification

  • Good general education including GCSE in Maths or English (or equivalent)
  • Typing 60 WPM minimum
  • RSA III or equivalent experience
  • AMSPAR Diploma
  • Dictate 3 or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • Customer care course (or equivalent experience)
  • Higher level education, qualification in business administration or and admin NVQ

Experience

  • Significant and current secretarial/administration experience as a medical secretary
  • Experience of working within a hospital
  • Experience in establishing/maintaining robust office systems
  • Audio typing

Skills

  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Computer/word processing skills including use of email (eg ability to create directories, documents, mail merge, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to generate own routine correspondence
  • Willingness and ability to learn new IT skills and technology

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge and experience of office management
  • Knowledge of requirements of the Confidentiality and Data protection Act, GDPR
