Key Responsibilities
You will oversee the proficient and effective clinical management of the Paediatric Acute Response Team, showcasing safe critical decision-making skills while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to address the needs of children and their families.
Our collaborative approach involves working closely with inpatient wards, Paediatric Emergency Departments, and local healthcare providers to deliver effective care for children and young people outside of hospital settings.

Job Duties
1. Ensure that the patient’s journey through the department is managed with expert clinical and effective communication skills.
2. Provide specialized guidance and support to all team members, promoting best practices. Serve as a professional leader and role model in all aspects of work.
3. Recognize and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations, ensuring all emergency equipment is ready for use.
4. Prepare, organize, and instruct patients in both individual and group activities related to health promotion and safety.
5. Maintain accurate records of all patient interactions in accordance with Trust Record Keeping Standards.
6. Deliver compassionate nursing care that adheres to clinical guidelines, is evidence-based, and meets individual patient needs.
7. Monitor vital signs and respond appropriately to results that fall outside normal parameters.
8. Communicate effectively with patients, caregivers, colleagues, and external agencies, ensuring sensitivity and overcoming communication barriers.
9. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure patient needs are met.
10. Provide information and advice to patients and caregivers regarding services and follow-up arrangements.
11. Monitor medication stock, ensuring proper storage conditions and reporting discrepancies.
12. Safely dispense and administer medication in accordance with Trust policies.
13. Update patient documentation, including referrals to other departments.
14. Apply problem-solving skills to various practice situations.
15. Prioritize personal workload effectively.
Staff Management, Education, and Training
16. Act as a deputy for the Ward Manager in organizing departmental operations.
17. Coordinate departmental activities, ensuring smooth and efficient operations while delegating tasks to nursing staff.
18. Provide leadership in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
19. Assist the Ward Manager with line management responsibilities, including performance appraisals for junior staff.
20. Lead educational programs for ward staff and students, serving as a mentor and assessor as needed.
21. Maintain a personal development plan to ensure clinical practice is current and based on best practices.
22. Assist in staff recruitment and develop a structured orientation program.
23. Manage departmental operations in the absence of the department manager.
24. Attend and contribute to professional meetings on behalf of the department manager as required.
25. Ensure efficient resource utilization within budgetary constraints.
Clinical Governance, Audit, and Research
26. Stay updated with all policies, procedures, and protocols relevant to clinical practice.
27. Understand the role boundaries and act consistently with legislation and policies.
28. Identify and manage risks proactively, reporting incidents to the department manager.
29. Contribute to quality assurance and clinical governance strategies by implementing service improvements.
30. Participate in clinical audits.
31. Treat all staff, patients, and relatives with respect and equality as per Trust policy.
32. Ensure the privacy and dignity of patients are maintained.
33. Present a professional appearance that reflects positively on the Trust.
34. Engage in annual performance reviews to identify personal development needs.
35. Monitor and maintain health, safety, and security for self and others.
