Job Overview

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with SEMH needs in a West Drayton school. As a key member of the teaching staff, you will work closely with the lead teacher to enable each pupil to access their curriculum and provide individualized support to promote their education and well-being.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist the lead teacher in developing and implementing plans to support pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Engage with pupils in playground activities and provide individualized support to promote their social, emotional, and behavioral development.
  • Implement a plan provided by the school to support pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Support and encourage the development of pupils' education, including helping them access their curriculum and providing individualized support.
  • Build relationships with pupils, parents, and guardians to promote a positive and supportive learning environment.
  • Look after pupils' physical, emotional, and social welfare, including ensuring their safety at all times.
  • Keep records and attend review meetings to monitor pupils' progress and adjust support plans as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians to keep them informed of pupils' progress and any concerns.
  • Provide 1:1 support to pupils as needed.

Key Skills and Requirements

  • Experience working with SEN pupils, particularly those with SEMH needs.
  • Friendly and compassionate approach to working with pupils.
  • Patient and understanding demeanor when working with pupils who may be experiencing difficulties.
  • Resilient and able to manage challenging behaviors.
  • Sensitivity and understanding when working with pupils who have experienced trauma.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with pupils, parents, and guardians.
  • Confident working in small groups and on a 1:1 basis with pupils.
