Principal CDM Designer

We are seeking an experienced Principal CDM Designer to join our team at Skilled Careers. As a key member of our consultancy, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful delivery of our projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, manage, and monitor the Pre-Construction phase to coordinate Health & Safety
  • Fulfil the duties of the Principal Designer as defined under CDM 2015, including carrying out the role of CDM-Advisor to support the client
  • Ensure that multiple team members and duty holders coordinate and cooperate with each other and check that relevant duties are complied with
  • Assist the client in identifying, obtaining, and collating pre-construction information
  • Provide pre-construction information to designers, the principal contractor, and contractors
  • Ensure that designers comply with their duties and cooperate with each other
  • Assist the client in validating health & safety credentials of contractors
  • Undertake safety by design review workshops
  • Attend client meetings during all phases of the project and advise the client and design team on Health & Safety guidelines
  • Guide the Design team and client through Health & Safety requirements through all relevant project phases, including RIBA Stage
  • Organise design risk workshops and review designers' risk assessments
  • Liaise with client representatives, Principal Contractor, and contractors with respect to health and safety
  • Review of Principal Contractors' information, including Construction Phase Health & Safety plan
  • Prepare the Health & Safety file
  • Submit F10 on behalf of the client
  • Undertake CDM site audits on behalf of the client
  • Undertake lessons learned workshops
  • Undertake audits
  • Review and identify surveys, etc. required
  • Produce and issue fee schedules and be responsible for project reporting internally
  • Responsible for internal project reporting on progress, close out, and supporting invoicing
Requirements:
  • At least 5 years' experience in a similar role with a focus on Construction Design Management
  • Experience working on projects largely led by MEP services
  • Data Centre and/or large-scale infrastructure project experience
  • ISO standard knowledge and experience beneficial
  • Stable career background
  • Knowledge of MEP building services would be useful
  • NEBOSH Diploma essential
  • Experience of construction site safety
  • Ideal experience of appropriate H&S procedures in an engineering consultancy environment in the construction sector and specifically relating to site visitors and professionals compared to contractors and site operatives
  • Ideal experience of working knowledge and experience of the UK Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and their applicability to design consultants in the built environment
  • Ability to understand risk assessment and mitigation methods and identify the most effective techniques and tools to use
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
  • Experience of having worked for an international consultancy (desirable)
  • Sound knowledge and working application of key H&S issues and legislation
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications, Word, Excel, etc.
  • Good understanding of British Standards
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and work to deadlines
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Presentation and training skills
  • Fluent English speaker (essential) with other language skills (desirable)
  • Chairing/facilitation of meeting skills
  • Knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical building systems preferred
  • Working knowledge of CDM, PUWER, COSHH, LOLER, MHSWR, etc. Regulations
  • Ability to co-ordinate with designers and contractors
  • Delivery of contract and program management - managing contractors' progress, information, and document flow, etc.
  • Ability to use IT-based calculation and spreadsheet software
  • Act in an ethical manner and follow the principles of the Ethics Charter and Ethics in Practice Guidelines
  • Background in consulting or construction preferred
  • Good understanding of H&S within an international business/consultancy
