Database Support Engineer Opportunity

Sterlings is partnering with a Financial Services Company to seek a skilled Database Support Engineer to join their EMEA Technology team.

The team is responsible for supporting the Microsoft SQL Server estate, collaborating closely with Application Support and other technology stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Responding to incident and request tickets, and monitoring alerts
  • Ensuring database servers are backed up in accordance with the company's recovery objectives
  • Configuring SQL Server monitoring tools to minimize false alarms
  • Performing regular patching of SQL Servers, raising and executing change requests, and deploying database change scripts provided by third-party vendors
  • Identifying proactive solutions to address performance issues, including hardware purchases, server configuration changes, or index/query changes
  • Participating in the migration of databases from on-premise to cloud technologies like AWS

The ideal candidate will have experience in building and operating highly available, complex customer-facing systems at scale in a 24x7 environment, as well as knowledge of database security and enterprise monitoring solutions such as Nagios and HP Arcsight.

This role offers a hybrid working week, with three days in the office and two working from home.
