Introduction

About Us

We are a forward-thinking organization dedicated to fostering advancement. This commitment is the common thread that unites everyone at The Economist Group (TEG). Our various divisions share a passion for innovation, independence, and rigor in their respective domains. We empower individuals and organizations to comprehend and address the significant challenges and transformations occurring globally. Our analytical precision, worldwide expertise, and evidence-based insights enable our stakeholders to navigate these changes effectively.

Our journey commenced in 1843, initiated by a Scottish hat manufacturer who established The Economist newspaper to advocate for free trade. Over the years, we have transformed into a fiercely independent global media and information services entity, delivering insightful analysis to an international audience. We provide our insights and analyses in diverse formats to subscribers and clients across 170 countries, with four distinct business units, each upholding our esteemed global reputation for excellence and integrity.

Through meticulous reporting, comprehensive analysis, and a global viewpoint, we elucidate the most significant events of today while striving to identify the trends that will shape the future. At the heart of our operations lies our independence, supported by our editorial culture and governance framework.

The Position

As a Lead Financial Planning and Analysis Specialist, you will be instrumental in bolstering The Economist's global operations. Your role will encompass the design of processes to support our international business, the analysis of performance metrics, the provision of forward-looking analyses, and the development of business cases for new revenue opportunities.

Your key responsibilities will include consolidating global budget and forecast submissions from various business units, collaborating closely with stakeholders to prepare precise and timely monthly board reports, and crafting presentations for senior management. Utilizing our cloud-based reporting and planning tool, Anaplan, you will enhance process efficiency and streamline operations. Additionally, you will cultivate and maintain robust relationships with the reporting and group finance teams to drive process enhancements and support the company's ongoing progress.

This role will report to the Senior FP&A Manager. You will thrive in a fast-paced environment, adeptly managing multiple priorities and engaging with various stakeholders across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare monthly presentation decks that include commentary, trend analysis, and KPIs for senior management, including presenting to the Finance Director, Managing Director, and Chief Financial Officer. Oversee cash flow forecasting, ensuring that Group finance has accurate data to facilitate future investment planning. Manage business unit headcount forecasting. Administer, review, and submit quarterly sales commissions for approval. Provide support and guidance to marketing budget holders to assist them in completing their budgets and forecasts while understanding monthly performance. Lead initiatives such as standardizing accounting codes to automate processes and reporting, with support from the Senior FP&A Manager. Collaborate with the Business Intelligence team to deliver Tableau dashboards that provide insights into revenue performance and other key subscriber metrics. Support our monthly rolling reforecasting process, working with the business to ensure an accurate view of expected performance between quarterly forecasts. Assist with the global budget and quarterly forecasts in Anaplan, becoming a subject matter expert in the system and processes. Continuously enhance processes to ensure data integrity, allowing for more value-added tasks. Work closely with Group accounting teams to ensure timely and accurate reporting submissions. Deliver ad-hoc analysis, insights, and financial modeling to support business decisions and provide valuable insights for stakeholders.

Required Experience, Skills, and Attributes

Experience in a global business environment with multiple products, currencies, and geographic locations. Proactive mindset, willing to challenge existing thinking. A curiosity about the world, The Economist Group, and its clientele. Familiarity with Anaplan is advantageous but not mandatory. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and organizational structures. Self-motivated to seek new ideas for streamlining and simplifying processes. Proven track record as a collaborative team player, dedicated to the collective success of the team. Alignment with the core values of The Economist Group – Independence, Integrity, Excellence, Inclusivity, Openness. The Economist Group is committed to diversity and equal opportunities, fostering an inclusive environment for all employees. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, regardless of ethnic origin, national origin, gender, gender identity, race, color, religious beliefs, disability, sexual orientation, age, or marital status.
