Your Role

Are you passionate about enhancing educational access for children and families? The Education Welfare Service is on the lookout for dedicated, professional, and skilled individuals to assist the local authority in fulfilling its obligations regarding school attendance and educational accessibility.

The selected candidates will offer guidance, support, and advice to families, educational institutions, and other Council departments concerning school attendance and educational access. It is important to note that Welfare and Education Liaison Officers may be required to assist in various areas of the service's responsibilities, providing an excellent opportunity to broaden experience and develop skills across multiple domains.

Available Roles

Role 1: 37 Hours, Full Time

This position will primarily focus on collaborating with schools and local services to enhance attendance rates. Responsibilities include conducting termly attendance meetings for schools in your designated area, facilitating communication and support for schools and Family Hubs, organizing training sessions, and participating in meetings. Additionally, you will perform initial assessments for children whose families are not engaging with the support provided by schools and manage casework for children within your geographical area.

Role 2: 29.6 Hours, Part Time

This role will initially concentrate on managing suspensions and exclusion processes, as well as supporting the attendance of excluded students. You will provide casework for students who have been permanently excluded, guiding them from the point of exclusion through the review process and into educational provision. This will involve representing the local authority during statutory reviews, ensuring that pertinent questions are raised regarding exclusion decisions and practices. Collaboration with schools and Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) will be essential to support student attendance in accordance with statutory guidelines.

About You

We seek individuals with a proactive mindset and substantial experience in engaging with and providing support to young people and their families.
