We are currently offering permanent positions for qualified Civil Design Engineers to join our Technical Communities in the South West of England. This is an opportunity to play a crucial role in the development of major infrastructure projects, particularly in the Nuclear New Build sector.

Role Summary

The Nuclear Civil Design Engineer will be tasked with the design, analysis, and oversight of civil structures within nuclear facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Main Duties

  • Oversee and coordinate the review and acceptance of deliverables within your area of responsibility.
  • Generate project-specific documentation, including handover reports and hypothesis notes.
  • Act as the primary contact for civil design queries and follow up on technical open points.
  • Assist the civil building lead in resolving complex technical issues.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure effective design production.
  • Manage and track the resolution of technical topics specific to building design.

Design and Development

  • Create detailed civil and structural designs for nuclear facilities, including containment structures and support buildings.
  • Utilize engineering software to produce design drawings and specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including calculations and technical reports.
  • Review and validate design documents submitted by contractors.
  • Communicate any design modifications to all relevant stakeholders.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Engage with other engineering disciplines, including mechanical and electrical engineering teams.
  • Participate in design review meetings and workshops.
  • Coordinate with clients and regulatory bodies as necessary.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Exhibit effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in civil design engineering, ideally within the nuclear sector.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software such as Tekla or STAAD Pro.
  • Familiarity with 3D visualization tools like Navisworks and/or PDMS.
  • In-depth knowledge of civil engineering design codes, particularly Eurocodes.
