Role Overview
The Engineering Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing the detailed engineering and management of ongoing engineering tasks throughout the construction phase and into the commissioning and startup stages. This position is essential for ensuring the successful delivery of the HyNet Project, which is part of a broader initiative aimed at decarbonizing the UK energy sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the engineering scope for the project, adhering to established policies and standards for hydrogen transportation.
- Ensure the design of assets promotes safety, identifying potential weaknesses and implementing corrective measures.
- Develop and execute Engineering Management and Assurance plans tailored to the project.
- Prepare and maintain documentation in compliance with project governance requirements.
- Provide regular updates on project status to stakeholders and collaborate with the project team to address governance review outcomes.
- Oversee the development of engineering scopes for key contracts, including those for Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning.
- Review and consolidate engineering documentation from suppliers and contractors.
- Coordinate engineering deliverables with contractors and consultants, managing commercial, scheduling, and risk aspects.
- Address technical risks throughout the project lifecycle, implementing mitigation strategies as necessary.
- Support the procurement and delivery of essential long-lead items for the hydrogen pipeline network.
- Provide technical support during the Development Consent Order examination process.
- Lead compliance with Process Safety requirements, delivering formal assessments and ensuring safety protocols are met.
- Align engineering decisions with operational and maintenance requirements for safe commissioning and operation.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong engineering background, ideally with experience in gas transmission, oil and gas, or petrochemical sectors. Key qualifications include:
Essential:
- Proven engineering experience in relevant industries, with a focus on process safety.
- Knowledge of UK or international pipeline design and material standards.
- Experience in commercial and contract management.
- Demonstrated project delivery experience in pipeline or process plant environments.
- Leadership experience in managing multidisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with operational support and construction phases of pipeline projects.
- Understanding of UK Gas Industry regulations.
- Knowledge of CDM 2015.
- Experience with hydrogen or sour gas systems.
