Job Overview

Are you an accomplished and forward-thinking Operations Engineer with extensive experience seeking a new opportunity? Bidwells is on the lookout for a skilled and seasoned Senior Operations Engineer (Systems/Applications) to spearhead and refine our IT Systems/Applications framework. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in shaping our future IT architecture while overseeing the development of a member of our IT Operations team.

In this critical position, you will support our ongoing transformation initiatives, engaging in both routine and project-based activities. Your primary responsibilities will include planning, scheduling, and executing change requests and maintenance tasks for the team, alongside conducting root cause analysis and managing escalated incidents.

This role offers flexibility with the option of agile working arrangements. Due to the nature of the responsibilities, occasional visits to other offices may be required. Extra hours may be necessary to complete tasks or conduct maintenance outside of regular hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Leadership:
  • Oversee and mentor one IT Operations team member, managing their performance and growth.
  • Act as the Systems expert within the IT Operations Team.
  • Collaborate with the Solutions Architect to create "As-Is" and "To-Be" Architecture Documents.
  • Facilitate the delivery of the Target Architecture through participation in Technical Design Authority.
  • Plan and implement project work, including design and service enhancement initiatives.
  • Guide and develop other IT Operations and Service Delivery team members.
  • IT Estate Management:
  • Supervise all facets of Systems Operations across various locations.
  • Ensure effective patch management systems are in place.
  • Conduct systems administration for Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Azure, SharePoint, Intune, Exchange, SCCM, HubSpot, MRI Suite, and Citrix.
  • Manage, renew, and upgrade systems in accordance with industry and security standards, including Cyber Essentials Plus and ISO 27001.
  • Evaluate and onboard new systems and applications.
  • Identify risks and formulate mitigation strategies for the IT risk register.
  • Technical Support:
  • Deliver technical support through Incident, Change, and Problem Management processes.
  • Work alongside the Service Delivery Team to assist with escalated tickets.
  • Collaborate with the Information Security Team to ensure a secure and protected infrastructure.
  • Diagnose system/application issues to identify root causes and prevent future occurrences.

About You:

Essential Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in executing improvement projects.
  • Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Experience with Windows Server and data/database management.
  • Proficient in diagnosing and resolving faults within established SLAs.
  • Experience with scripting and automation techniques.
  • Able to operate within a change control and configuration management framework.
  • Act as the technical escalation point for incidents.
  • Experience in supporting, implementing, and maintaining Business Applications.
  • Familiarity with the software delivery lifecycle, including requirements gathering, solution development, user testing, and post-implementation support.
  • Effective delegation and time management capabilities.
  • Ability to translate business/operational needs into efficient solutions.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with software deployment via SCCM or Intune.
  • Familiarity with Active Directory, SQL, and Exchange.
  • Experience with Microsoft Cloud services, including Office 365, Teams, SharePoint, Power BI, Azure Cloud Services, Intune, and Defender.
  • Experience with HubSpot, the MRI suite, ServiceNow, and GIS systems.
  • Experience in Shared Services or Commercial IT Services operations.
  • Skills in configuring and maintaining monitoring tools and systems.
  • Experience with Citrix management, maintenance, and implementation.
  • Relevant technical certifications.
  • Experience with second-line technical support processes.
  • People management experience.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
