Role Responsibilities

As a member of our Science Team, you will play a crucial role in delivering comprehensive scientific guidance and innovative research to inform policy development and enforce product safety regulations. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the preparation and drafting of documents for our Scientific Advisory Group, including risk assessments and meeting coordination.
  • Utilizing your expertise in chemical risk assessment to evaluate industry submissions regarding the safety of consumer products, particularly in the cosmetics and toy sectors.
  • Interpreting toxicological data to conduct thorough risk assessments and effectively communicate findings to non-specialists.
  • Addressing inquiries related to chemical risks from various teams within the department.
  • Collaborating on current and future research initiatives in conjunction with our Research and Evidence Team.
  • Providing guidance and oversight to a junior Risk Assessor.
  • Adapting to shifting priorities and supporting diverse projects as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential:

  • Demonstrated ability to establish strong professional relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in communicating complex scientific concepts to non-experts, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Critical thinking and meticulous attention to detail.

Desirable:

  • Registered Toxicologist status is preferred but not mandatory; support will be provided to achieve this qualification.
