The Role
We are in search of a Senior/Principal Applications Engineer to enhance our expanding engineering team and refine our application focus and customer engagement. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence application projects that are vital to CGD's ongoing innovation.
The applications engineering team plays a critical role in showcasing the advantages of GaN technology across various applications by developing reference designs and evaluation boards. This team is customer-centric and essential in supporting the design-in process alongside sales and marketing efforts.
Your contributions will be instrumental in ensuring the successful integration of CGD's GaN products into customer applications.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Applications Engineering, you will collaborate closely with sales, business development, marketing, systems engineering, and product development teams, as well as regional teams to:
- Lead the creation of high-performance and/or high-density power converter demonstrators and reference boards utilizing HV and LV GaN products for consumer, industrial, and automotive applications.
- Analyze customer platforms, identify trends, and determine how our GaN devices can assist in achieving their system objectives.
- Deliver exceptional technical application support to customers, providing hands-on assistance in the development of custom hardware, reference designs, and validation of novel features.
- Stay informed about competitive offerings, conducting benchmarking and competitor analysis to understand the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, while collaborating with our expert device designers to maintain our competitive edge.
- Provide technical training on applications to internal teams, external partners, and customers.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing by producing high-quality application notes, white papers, design guides, and other technical documentation.
- Significantly influence our product roadmap.
Qualifications
Essential Skills and Experience
- Extensive experience in systems engineering, field application engineering, applications engineering, or technical marketing.
- A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
- Proficiency in power electronics, switch mode power supplies, motor drives, PCB layout, prototyping, control techniques, EMI management, and simulation software.
- Experience in device measurement and characterization.
- Basic understanding of wide bandgap semiconductors.
- Experience in direct customer engagement, with a willingness to travel as necessary.
- Proactive approach, adaptable to the evolving needs of projects and business, with a results-driven mindset.
- Excellent communication skills and a strong motivation to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Fluent in English.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with GaN-based medium to high power applications.
- Experience in automotive applications, including DC-DC converters, on-board chargers, and traction inverters.
