Your role in the mission:

Type One Energy is seeking an experienced CNC Manufacturing Specialist for our Boston MA center of excellence. You will play a crucial role in the safe and reliable development of our high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet program.

You will collaborate closely with Engineers, Physicists, and the Senior Leadership Team to develop and execute manufacturing processes and procedures.

Your responsibilities will include operating and maintaining CNC machinery and other systems essential for building and testing HTS magnet systems. This encompasses cryogenics, CNC machines, machine tools, soldering, brazing, vacuum welding, and other specialized equipment. This position demands strong human performance skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to safety as the top priority.

  • Assist in formulating and implementing a manufacturing strategy for our magnet activities that aligns with the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Set up and operate a 5-axis CNC machine to perform tasks such as drilling, grinding, and milling.
  • Work closely with our Manufacturing Supervisor and a team of Engineers to ensure a positive and productive work environment.
  • Provide guidance on technical and safety matters and offer training to enhance team members' skills.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on machines to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Monitor machine operations to ensure that products meet specifications and to identify any machine malfunctions or defects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand, develop, and fulfill requirements.
  • Address any safety or quality issues that arise.
  • Maintain accurate records of activities such as travelers.
  • Read and interpret assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, and detailed work instructions.

What you’ll need:

  • Demonstrated experience in manufacturing with a focus on safety, quality, and reliability.
  • Proven experience as a CNC Machinist or in a similar role.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of CNC machines (5-axis preferred), machine tools, and high-energy systems. Ability to operate a CNC machine independently.
  • Experience in participating in or conducting safety reviews and investigations.
  • Experience in writing and reviewing manufacturing checklists and procedures.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance related to manufacturing activities, including Occupational Safety and Health standards.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Capability to perform activities such as stooping, typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • An associate degree or higher in engineering technology (preferred), a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with quality assurance and quality control processes. Hands-on experience with HTS or cryogenic systems.
  • CNC/CAM coding experience.
  • Familiarity with metrology systems such as laser scanning equipment, gauges, and hand measurement tools.
