As a Commercial Director at Vistry Group, you will be responsible for defining, directing, and leading a commercial strategy that balances risk to the business with opportunity for income generation to reinvest in the business.

You will direct and lead the governance of the Commercial team, ensuring proper accountability for, and reporting of, all commercial activity and the development of appropriate control systems.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Directing the performance of existing commercial business ventures to ensure contracts are fulfilled and profit targets are delivered.
  • Helping to define and embed a commercial approach to the running of the department across all levels of the hierarchy.
  • Working with the senior management team to collaboratively guide the development of professional standards, commercial contracts, and service level agreements.
  • Identifying and managing risks commercial and otherwise.

  • Managing risk and ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and internal procedural requirements.
  • Managing and supporting the performance and development of the Commercial team.
  • Working collaboratively with other disciplines to ensure the necessary key milestones are achieved through the life of site process.
  • Supporting sustainability within the business to enhance our efforts towards a more sustainable and environmentally responsible operation, driving operations and ensuring we meet the business's sustainability goals.
  • Supporting social value within the business, including collation of data, increasing local social and economic value, and driving cultural change within the teams.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience working within a residential house builder.
  • Experience of people management and project leading.
  • A good understanding of building regulations and legal obligations.
  • A good understanding of construction contracts, including JCT and NEC.
  • A good knowledge of construction methods and materials.
  • An inspirational leadership style and strong team player.
  • Experience of supporting business growth.
  • Well-developed analytical, oral, and presentation/communication skills.
  • Ability to formulate commercial plans and ensure full engagement.
Desirable Qualifications

Desirable qualifications include:

  • A Member of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) or Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
  • Committed to chosen profession by continued self-development, i.e., short courses, seminars.
  • Degree in Surveying, Building, or similar.
