We are seeking a skilled Carpenter Supervisor to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a key member of our Building and Grounds department, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of our facilities, ensuring that they are safe and functional for our employees and visitors.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and coordinate the work of inmate workers in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the facility.
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance throughout the institution, including maintenance, repair, construction, and replacement of components.
- Manage inventory through planning and purchasing, and respond to work requests in a timely manner.
- Assist in other areas of the Building and Grounds department, including preventative maintenance, construction projects, equipment repair, electrical, welding, plumbing, electronics, or outside maintenance.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of all aspects of carpentry, building construction, masonry, tools, blueprints, materials, and measurements.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise the work of others.
- Ability to estimate materials and cost.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Training, certification, or license in related trades.
- Commercial Driver's License.
- Additional experience in any of the following: Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Vehicle or Equipment Repair, Locksmith, Painting, and Electronics.
- Correctional experience.
- Skills in the use of tools of the trade.
- Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Programs and Outlook or preventative maintenance programs.
This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to prioritize tasks effectively. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, and will be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
