Job Summary:
The Power Plant Operator will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining the energy management system for all buildings, ensuring safe and efficient operation. This includes taking readings of steam flow totals, oil, and gas consumptions, and CO2 adjustments and OS temperatures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform corrective maintenance for steam system failures, including leaking ball joints, expansion joints, valves, and piping.
- Perform corrective maintenance for portable water systems failures, including pumps, motors, and controls.
- Perform preventive maintenance for boiler systems, including draft gauges, burners, soot blowers, and controls.
- Perform hourly readings to check for visible defects and maintain safe and normal operation.
- Supervise power plant mechanic on assigned shift to ensure work tasks are performed in a safe and timely manner.
- Participate in hiring process, evaluate work performance, enforce standards of conduct, provide guidance and training.
- Maintain daily log sheets and chemical readings on computer.
- Receive and review requests for emergency or repair services and determine appropriate action.
Requirements:
- Considerable knowledge and experience in the operation and maintenance of mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment.
- Considerable experience operating and maintaining steam and power plant equipment.
- Extensive knowledge of pressure vessel boilers and maintenance, water treatment, and auxiliary mechanical equipment operations and maintenance.
- Experience in the maintenance and operation of utility or industrial power production systems.
- Ability to analyze performance and operating efficiency of systems to optimize energy use and production.
- Ability to climb, crawl, and bend through openings to inspect and lift 50 pounds.
- High school graduate with equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a university setting.
