About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer to join our Mechanical Systems team at AtkinsRéalis. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering mechanical engineering projects to clients or internal project teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Understand client requirements and aspirations to identify and agree scopes of work.
  • Deliver high-quality work to agreed timescales and budgets.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of rolling stock areas, including bogies and suspension, wheelsets, bearings and transmissions, braking systems and performance, door systems, couplers and gangways, corrosion repairs and fabrication, engines, and train maintenance and fleet management.
Example Work Activities
  • The introduction of new rolling stock through design scrutiny in support of the Certification Body.
  • Cost reduction through component condition assessment and maintenance optimization.
  • Investigation of in-service issues/problem solving.
  • Devising practical repair solutions.
  • Improving system reliability through the review of fault data and recommendation for modifications.
  • Undertake Project Manager roles for projects managed by the Mechanical Systems team.
  • Identify technical, commercial, and safety risks associated with projects and ensure these are managed through each project phase.
