Role Overview

The Employment Counsel position is situated within the Vodafone UK Legal Risk Management Team. This role is designed to provide practical, proactive, and solution-oriented employment law guidance, aligned with Vodafone's core values, on a variety of issues, particularly focusing on: (i) TUPE guidance for bids and procurement processes, (ii) management of ACAS and Employment Tribunal claims, and (iii) intricate employee relations and HR initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

1. Delivering practical, succinct, and commercially viable employment law advice to various sectors of the UK business, including:

- Advising on all facets of TUPE, especially in relation to service provision changes during bids and procurement in a dynamic environment;
- Managing ACAS and Employment Tribunal claims, including the engagement of external legal counsel; and
- Offering guidance, training, and support to HR on all employment law matters, including complex employee relations issues, internal policies, contracts, and handbooks.

2. Capable of independently managing employment law advice and projects, prioritizing effectively, and delivering timely guidance with appropriate oversight.

3. Producing clear and concise internal briefing documents and advice, with the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including senior management.

4. Independently overseeing all employment law advice and projects, updating legal precedents, and conducting transformation initiatives, including the creation of guidance materials and training for stakeholders and legal colleagues.

5. Engaging and managing external legal counsel as necessary.

6. Collaborating efficiently with other members of the UK Legal Team.

7. Providing support to the Senior Employment Counsel during periods of absence and recognizing the value of professional development opportunities.

8. Assisting the Senior Employment Counsel in mentoring junior team members, including trainees and paralegals.

Candidate Profile
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Employment Law, particularly in advising on TUPE matters related to service provision changes for procurement.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of delivering clear and concise advice and training tailored to the audience.
  • Proficient drafting abilities, including the preparation of TUPE schedules, contractual documents, and correspondence.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing capabilities, able to lead legal discussions at the appropriate level.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain a robust network of contacts throughout the organization.
  • Willingness to mentor and support junior team members.
  • Qualified legal professional (Solicitor, Barrister, Chartered Legal Executive, or equivalent) with a minimum of three years of post-qualification experience in either private practice or an in-house setting. PQE is a guideline, and candidates demonstrating the necessary skill set will be considered regardless of PQE.
  • In-depth understanding of Employment Law and the ability to identify commercial and legal risks, demonstrating a proactive and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Able to work independently and exercise sound commercial judgment in routine risk management.
