Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and students to ensure a smooth learning environment.

  • Deliver targeted interventions to support students with special educational needs.
  • Assist in the implementation of lesson plans, ensuring that students receive a high-quality education.
  • Provide feedback to students on their progress, helping them to set and achieve goals.
  • Take charge of small groups of students for defined activities, promoting social and emotional learning.
  • Assume responsibility for a whole class in the absence of a teacher, ensuring continuity of learning.
  • Work with challenging students in a supportive and non-judgmental manner, using effective behavior management strategies.
  • Supervise students during breaks and lunchtimes, promoting a safe and respectful environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers to communicate with parents about student progress, ensuring that everyone is informed and involved.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date learner files and records, ensuring that student information is secure and confidential.
Requirements:
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in English and Maths.
  • Have knowledge of statutory requirements related to health and safety, special educational needs, and safeguarding of children.
  • Be able to work independently and as part of a team, supporting students and teachers to achieve their goals.
  • Have experience working with students with special educational needs, including those with Education Health Care Plans and complex needs.
  • Be committed to raising student achievement and promoting a positive learning environment.
  • Be able to manage emotionally demanding situations with sensitivity and professionalism.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
  • Experience working as an Education Support Specialist in an alternative provision environment.
  • Have a strong understanding of curriculum requirements, particularly in literacy and numeracy.
  • Have evidence of successful work with disaffected and emotionally vulnerable students.
